Youth Team Selection Night, Wednesday 14th March

After the first full year of the Youth Team and one years hard work training every week I am pleased to announce the Youth Team's results of the Youth Climbing Series for Scotland South.

Ben Freireich,  Rhiannon Freireich,  Calum Hall,  Mathew Harvie, Chirstie MacLeod and Sophie Fitchett all managed to make the Scotland South Team after at least finishing in the top 3 of the Youth Climbing Series.

1st - Rhiannon and Christie
2nd - Ben
3rd - Sophie, Matt and Calum

Having 6 Kids getting on the Scotland South Team is amazing, but signals the start of more hard work in training for the YCS Final.

Michael Donnachie also competed in all the rounds in the YCS and made a massive improvement in what was his first season in climbing competitions.

For next years Team we are having a selection day on Wednesday 14th March at 6.00pm.

The selection day on Wednesday will involve a FUN competition that all kids from 7 all the way through to 17 can enter for free (Parental Consent is required for those under the age of 16.)

See you there?

New Climbing Gear for your Dear with no Fear!

Kids_harness1
Our Hire Equipment has been expanded to take into account the increasing number of younger climbers coming in. We now have the Wildcountry Vision Kidz full body harness. Great for extra security and support to developing climbers. Add to that our kids Petzl Elios Helmets, and shoes down to an EU32 (UK Kids 13) and you have it all set to be thoroughly shown up by your junior guests! Remember, that although our age limit is 7 for instructed sessions, their is no age limit for members guests (and you can sign in 2).

Clubs for Young Climbers

We offer a range of ongoing options for young climbers (or potential climbers). Rock Ratz 7-12 years, Climbatize 12-17 years, NICAS Squad 7-16 Years (for climbers at NICAS 3 or above). We even run a Youth Team. You may have heard of them. They recently did very well in the MCofS Youth Climbing Series and some have been selected for the Scotland South Youth Team. Our climbing clubs are now busier than ever, why don't you join in?!

The big 2012 esoterica debate!

So much weird and wonderful kit has come out in 2012 and as self-confessed gear-junkies we want your thoughts and input!

Contenders so far include the:

- Klymit Inertia X-lite - a self-inflating sleeping mat the goes inside your sleeping bag, packs down to the size of a can of GoFast and weighs a mere 173g

-CAMP ball nuts - the smallest active protectionn in the world! These fantastically innovative bits of kit are for the truly slim and grim. Reintroduced after their initial incantation as Lowe Balls, these have become the secret weapon of many aid and trad climbers. These little wonders will work in small parallel-sided cracks where the only other option is pounding a piton. Ball Nuts also work in pin scars, quarry shot-holes and small flares where cams simply won’t fit. Since they weigh so little, many advanced trad climbers keep a #2 and #3 on their rack at all times. (Now in stock at GCC!)
